[Szejaarto: Hungarian Parliament Votes to Withdraw from International Criminal Court]

On April 29, Hungarian Foreign Minister Szejaarto stated on his X page that the Hungarian parliament has voted in favor of withdrawing from the International Criminal Court. He said, "With this decision, we refuse to be part of a politicized institution that has lost its fairness and authority."

Hungary announced the process of withdrawing from the International Criminal Court on April 3. Prior to this, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Budapest. On November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for him, stating that he had "deliberately and knowingly" deprived Gaza Strip residents of basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine, resulting in civilian deaths. Netanyahu's visit to Hungary was his first trip after the issuance of the arrest warrant.

The International Criminal Court is an international judicial body that handles cases involving four serious crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression. Its foundational document is the Rome Statute. Hungary signed the statute in 1999 and ratified it in 2001.
