American man kills sex offender
In Fremont, California, a 29-year-old Indian-American man named Varun Suresh has been charged with murder for stabbing a 71-year-old registered sex offender, David Brimmer. Police described the attack as "premeditated" and arrested Suresh at the scene, where a knife was found on him. According to foreign media reports, although Brimmer received emergency treatment, the convicted child sexual offender eventually died from multiple stab wounds.
According to court documents released on Monday, Varun Suresh told the police that he had long had the idea of killing sex offenders, and he justified his alleged murder by saying "they hurt children" and "they deserve to die."
Investigators revealed that Suresh used California's "Megan's Law" database to identify and locate David Brimmer. Brimmer is a registered sex offender who was sentenced to nine years in prison in 1995 for child sexual abuse. Authorities confirmed that there was no personal relationship between Suresh and Brimmer before the attack.
On the day of the attack, Suresh carried a knife and posed as an accountant to solicit clients door-to-door. He carried a bag, notebook, and coffee to appear realistic. Upon arriving at David Brimmer's home, he confirmed his identity, shook hands with him, and said, "I know I've found the right person."
Investigators found multiple screenshots of files from the California "Megan's Law" website on Suresh's phone, including Brimmer's file. After his arrest, he told investigators that he chose David Brimmer as a target because of his age and vulnerability. In interviews after his arrest, investigators reported that Suresh showed no remorse for killing David Brimmer, stating that he "was not sorry" and "felt no sadness at all."
Suresh is currently in custody, and prosecutors are reviewing the case.
Varun Suresh was previously arrested in 2021 for making false bomb threats, criminal threats, and burglary, when he placed a suspicious package at the Hyatt Hotel in Fremont, and the night before, there had been an unrelated police shooting incident at the same location. After his arrest, Suresh was reportedly told by the police that he believed the CEO of the Hyatt Hotel was a pedophile and expressed a desire to kill him.
