Foreign media: Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan have jointly opposed the EU's proposal to list all eel species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), in order to protect the eel supply chain in East Asia.
The EU's proposal may cause a major impact on the eel trade in East Asia. Therefore, Japan has actively taken the lead in coordinating positions, trying to prevent the passage of the proposal, in order to maintain the stability and economic interests of the eel industry in the East Asian region.
