Breaking: Trump to Award America’s Highest Science Honor to Musk
President Donald Trump is set to present the National Medal of Science at the White House on Thursday to Elon Musk, recognizing his contributions to major technological advancements and innovation in reusable rocketry, Starlink, Tesla, and Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.
Musk will receive the honor alongside Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google; Huang Renxun, CEO of Nvidia; and Lisa Su, CEO of AMD.
Michael Dell and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, are to be awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
This marks the first time the awards have been presented during either of Trump’s two presidential terms.
Trump’s uncle, John G. Trump, previously received the medal—though posthumously in 1983—for his work in high-voltage engineering and the application of radiation in medicine.
John G. Trump was the younger brother of real estate developer Fred Trump, making him the uncle of the current president.
The White House ceremony also signals Musk’s reintegration into the inner circle of political power following a period of estrangement from Trump.
While publicly silent, many of Trump’s approaches reflect subtle emulation of strategies and tactics associated with this side of the political spectrum.
