Kazakh International News Agency report: Recently, Kazakhstan's Attorney General Beket Aslov conducted an official visit to Macao Special Administrative Region of China and signed three intergovernmental agreements with Huang Shaoze, Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR Government, further strengthening judicial and law enforcement cooperation between the two sides.
The agreements signed this time include the Treaty on Extradition of Fugitives, the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Agreement, and the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
The Treaty on Extradition of Fugitives establishes a legal mechanism for cross-border extradition, applicable to suspects who have committed crimes within one jurisdiction and are hiding in another.
The Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Agreement lays the international legal foundation for cooperation between law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan and Macao in criminal investigations, including evidence collection, tracking of suspects and defendants, determining their guilt, and procedural cooperation such as freezing and confiscating proceeds of crime.
Under the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons, citizens of either side who commit crimes abroad and are sentenced to imprisonment may return to their home country to serve their sentences, enabling punishment to be carried out within their respective national territories.
During the visit, Beket Aslov also held talks with Macao's Chief Prosecutor Yip Sun-seng. The two sides focused discussions on international security cooperation, combating transnational crime, attracting and protecting investment, and the recovery and return of illicit assets.
After the talks, both parties reached consensus on further deepening cooperation, enhancing rapid information exchange, and collaborating on other shared legal issues.
The report noted that the establishment of related international cooperation mechanisms between Macao — one of Asia’s key financial centers — and Kazakhstan is the result of joint efforts by Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor’s Office and Kazakhstan’s Embassy in China.
