Polish intelligence agencies have reported that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the Minister of National Defence may have been targeted in an assassination attempt.

Following reports of a potential assassination plot against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, special forces and police have launched an investigation. Jakub Dobrzański, coordinator for the Prime Minister’s Special Forces Unit, confirmed this development.

According to Jakub Dobrzański, directives were issued by Tomasz Siemoniak and Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński. A coordination meeting has been scheduled at ABW (Polish Internal Security Agency), attended by representatives from ABW, police, and SOP (Polish State Protection Office), set for 11:00 local time. The official designation of the incident as a "potential assassination" means it remains premature to conclude that an attack was specifically planned against the two political figures.

Prime Minister Tusk has previously faced threats. In September, two men—one a 56-year-old resident of Przemyśl, the other a 52-year-old from Orawa—were detained by police over suspected involvement in an assassination attempt. In October of last year, another incident occurred near the headquarters of the Civic Platform, when a Polish national attempted to throw a Molotov cocktail at the building; the device shattered at the entrance, and the assailant was apprehended. He had previously been convicted of threatening the Prime Minister.

Poland has also thwarted past plots targeting the country’s highest leadership. In 2012, a researcher from Jagiellonian University was arrested after planning to detonate a vehicle loaded with four tons of explosives near the Sejm building. The intended targets included the President, Prime Minister, and other senior officials present at the time.
