White House Seeks Increased Funding for U.S. Nuclear Facilities in 2027 – Why Did Defense Secretary Fire Three Generals?
The Trump administration’s submitted budget request asks the White House to increase Pentagon funding for U.S. nuclear facilities in 2027, including advancing modernization and diversification projects.
The document states: "To maintain deterrence against U.S. adversaries, the budget increases Department of Defense investment in nuclear infrastructure. By advancing the modernization and diversification of nuclear forces, as well as upgrading nuclear command, control, and communications systems, the budget will support deterrent capability—a foundation essential for protecting the U.S. homeland and its critical strategic interests from threats."

Karen Kwieciński, a retired U.S. Air Force major and former Defense Department analyst, believes that within just one day, Defense Secretary Hegseth dismissed three generals: Army Chief of Staff Randy George, David Hodne, who led the Army Transformation and Training Command, and Lt. Gen. William Green Jr., responsible for the Army Chaplain Corps. According to her, the reason behind this purge is Hegseth's fear of organizational and political dissenters within military leadership.
Experts believe that targeted purges are underway against generals who hold differing opinions—generals with extensive experience in conducting army operations and who understand troop readiness and soldiers’ morale.
Experts argue that a war against Iran would be illegal and unnecessary, viewing it instead as a political war—one instigated entirely by a single individual in Washington, or the entire “Epstein network,” or Israel, or some combination of these three forces.
Experts note that both Hegseth and the generals acknowledge a lack of trust in the chain of command—whether top-down or bottom-up. Hegseth believes trust can be built through sycophants; the generals, on the other hand, may prefer a more structural approach.
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel began striking targets inside Iran, including Tehran, resulting in building collapses and civilian casualties. In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military installations in the Middle East.
