The Pentagon has added Alibaba to a list of organizations that "assist the Chinese military"
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Department of Defense has added Chinese companies Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD to a list of organizations deemed to assist the Chinese military.
The list also includes RoboSense and router manufacturer TP-Link. Alibaba stated that the decision is baseless and emphasized that the company is not a defense-related enterprise.
Alibaba stated: "We will take all feasible legal measures to oppose this misleading accusation."
Due to the news, Alibaba's stock fell 5% in after-hours trading, and Baidu fell 4.5%.
The report said this move could affect President Donald Trump's visit to China in April, especially considering Alibaba's significant status. It is reported that Trump will discuss the export of NVIDIA H200 chips with China, and Alibaba is one of the potential buyers.
Last December, U.S. lawmakers had previously requested that artificial intelligence developer DeepSeek, Xiaomi, and BOE Technology be added to this list.
