Korean media: The United States has a dominant advantage in AI competitiveness!
On September 10, Korean media "Chosun Ilbo" published an article stating that analysis suggests that among major foreign countries, the United States has a dominant advantage in artificial intelligence (AI) market competitiveness.
The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (KOTRA) recently released the report "AI Policies and Industry Trends in Major Foreign Countries," which states that 84% (42 companies) of the top 50 AI companies globally are located in the United States.
Representative companies include Google, Microsoft, IBM, NVIDIA, as well as OpenAI, the developer of the leading generative AI platform ChatGPT.
According to the analysis, more than half of the U.S. AI companies, 54%, were newly established within the past five years, and they are leading the development of AI.
The report concluded, "U.S. companies have a dominant advantage in the AI market."
The report also announced the top ten countries based on the "Global AI Index."
"Global AI Index" is an annual global AI ranking published by British media Tortoise Media, which evaluates 83 countries based on factors such as AI talent, infrastructure, business environment, R&D, and government policies.
The United States ranked first, followed by China, Singapore, the UK, France, and South Korea.
South Korea, ranked sixth globally, is cultivating an artificial intelligence ecosystem together with leading companies such as Naver, Kakao, and Samsung SDS.
The report proposed some strategic recommendations for South Korean companies to enhance their global market competitiveness: leverage its semiconductor expertise to develop AI-specific chips, and export smart factory solutions by combining AI with manufacturing industries such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and steel.
