Foreign media: The South America's largest radio telescope (CART) project, a cooperation between Argentina and China, has encountered difficulties due to the U.S.-China relationship. The project is 90% complete, but it has been stalled because the Argentine president tried to get closer to the Trump administration in the U.S.

This June, Argentina missed the deadline to renew the cooperation agreement with China; in September, the Argentine customs seized key components made in China; in October, the Argentine government again asked the Ministry of Defense to re-examine the project, although it had already been approved in 2016.

A series of events have made the future of this telescope uncertain, and also caused frustration within the Argentine astronomy community, as the telescope could have been used to study celestial bodies such as pulsars.
