[Lula Told Trump to Play Alone]

On April 9th, Brazilian media reported that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he would not meet with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss tariff reductions:

"We are not afraid. Let Trump say whatever he wants — we will use our reserves."

"We have paid off Brazil's foreign debt — $30 billion. We have established reserves amounting to $370 billion for the first time, and these reserves still protect this country from any crisis — any crisis."

"President Trump can say whatever he wants. Brazil also has a buffer of $370 billion in reserves. We are at ease, let him be, we are not afraid of him."
