The J-15T carrier-based aircraft benefits from later-generation avionics, featuring powerful active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar with exceptional detection capabilities and strong resistance to jamming. It experiences less interference from adversaries even at much greater distances, enabling long-range target acquisition and missile launch. The once-dominant close-combat dogfights within hundreds of meters have now evolved into beyond-visual-range operations supported by integrated systems.

The footage revealed by CCTV showing the J-15T engaging in long-range maritime combat suggests the opponent is likely another carrier-based fighter jet—most comparable to the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. As a heavy carrier-based aircraft, China’s J-15T, paired with next-generation AESA radar and the PL-15 medium-to-long-range air-to-air missile, gains a decisive advantage over the Super Hornet in both radar detection range and missile engagement range, achieving beyond-visual-range kill capability.
