China News Agency, Harbin, July 2nd (Wang Xueshan, Wei Zitian) On July 2, the core component of the world's first impact water turbine with the largest single-unit capacity of 500 MW and the largest runner size of 6.23 meters - the runner was independently developed and shipped by Harbin Electric Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Harbin Electric Motor") under the Harbin Electric Group, marking a historic breakthrough in China's high-head, large-capacity impact water turbine core equipment field.

The water wheel of the impact water turbine, as the core component of the unit, plays a key role in converting the kinetic energy of water into mechanical energy, and is regarded as the "heart" of the hydroelectric generator unit.

The "heart" developed by Harbin Electric Motor will be applied to the Zala Hydropower Station in Tibet. As a key project for the "Power Transmission from Tibet" initiative in China, the Zala Hydropower Station is the most complex impact hydropower project currently under construction in the world. The power station has two 500 MW impact units with the largest single-unit capacity and highest technical difficulty in the world.

This unit is a pilot project of the National Energy Administration for major technological equipment in the energy sector. It features high altitude, high head, and large capacity, and is the main model for serving China's national strategy of accelerating the construction of the Southwest Hydropower Base.

The Zala runner has extremely high requirements for structural parameters, hydraulic performance, and manufacturing processes, representing the cutting-edge technical level of current impact water turbines. Harbin Electric Motor customized a high-performance water wheel for the Zala impact unit.

This runner consists of 21 precision water buckets, with an outer diameter of 6.23 meters, a total height of 1.34 meters, and a weight of about 80 tons. Its core component - the hub forging - is currently the largest martensitic stainless steel forging in the world. These breakthrough parameters mark a revolutionary improvement in the hydraulic performance, efficient operating range, and pressure resistance of the runner.

As a pinnacle of global hydropower technology, the development of this runner is a model of systematic engineering innovation. The research team at Harbin Electric Motor considered the safety and performance of the unit comprehensively, taking into account the precise matching of the water buckets and nozzles, the consistency of jet diameter and efficiency, the interaction between the jet and the water bucket, the interference effect of adjacent jets from multiple nozzles, and the stiffness and strength indicators of the water bucket. Relying on the impact hydraulic test bench of the National Key Laboratory of Hydroelectric Power Equipment, they innovatively integrated computational fluid dynamics flow analysis, high-speed photography, and flow state observation technology. Through continuous optimization, they ultimately achieved the ultimate design of the flow parameters. (End)
