On June 5th, U.S. President Trump stated during a meeting with German Chancellor Scholz that he would continue supporting Ukraine, but his main goal was to end the bloodshed conflict.
A reporter asked Trump whether he would continue supporting Ukraine. He replied, "Yes, I am with Ukraine. We have just signed a major agreement about rare earth metals with Ukraine, and we hope so. You know, I support ending the killing, which is what I truly want."
Trump said that the war Russia waged against Ukraine should never have happened. He also reiterated that the U.S. has spent $350 billion, and Europe has spent over $100 billion aiding Ukraine, but "the issue is not about money," "money is only a small part, it is not the key. The key is death and destruction. You lose an entire culture."
According to Trump, Ukraine once had "the most beautiful towers in the world," and now they are "all blown to pieces." He may be referring to the domes of Ukrainian churches.
"They deprived this country of its culture, they deprived this country of its heritage, which is terrible. But most importantly, again, is death – more than five thousand people per week."
Trump said he understood Putin's counterattack and was dissatisfied with Zelenskyy escalating the situation. He also revealed that he had called Putin yesterday, urging him not to retaliate against the attack on Russian airbases by Ukraine's Security Service. He advised Putin not to take any retaliatory actions and urged for the cessation of combat: "Don't do it, you shouldn't do it, you must stop."
