Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 10 during a press conference in Tajikistan that Russia will soon have the new weapons mentioned earlier, and the testing of these weapons is progressing smoothly.
The Russian leader stated, "I believe we will have the opportunity to announce a new type of weapon that we had previously announced. This weapon is under development, and related tests are being carried out and are progressing smoothly."
Putin did not specify the type of weapons involved, but he emphasized that the novelty and modernization level of Russia's intercontinental weapons systems, sea-based and air-based weapons are "at a very high level."
Putin said, "The advancement of our nuclear deterrent forces exceeds that of any other nuclear-armed country. We are actively promoting the development of all kinds of nuclear deterrent forces. The various equipment development plans I mentioned in recent years are currently being implemented, and we are working to perfect and finally realize them."
At the same time, Putin acknowledged that some form of arms race is indeed taking place.
In response to a journalist's question about his previous remarks at the "Valdai" International Debate Club (when Putin said that a certain country was preparing for nuclear testing), he told the journalist, "To be honest, I think there is indeed some form of arms race. But I did not say that the United States was preparing, I meant that some countries are preparing to conduct (nuclear) tests."
