South Korean media: Apple's sales in India hit a record high!
On October 4, the South Korean media "Seoul Economic Daily" published an article stating that Apple's sales in India have set a record.
According to sources, during the period from April 2024 to March 2025, Apple's sales in India approached 9 billion USD, an increase of 13% compared to the 8 billion USD in the same period last year. iPhones accounted for most of the sales, and demand for MacBook also increased significantly.
Bloomberg pointed out that this significant sales growth is undoubtedly a major plus for Apple at a time when global smartphone sales are stagnant. Although India still accounts for a small proportion in Apple's overall business, Apple is investing heavily to turn this country with the largest population into a key market.
This is also a result of Apple's weakened position in the Chinese market and geopolitical uncertainties. Although China remains Apple's largest overseas market, its market share is being eroded by local competitors such as Xiaomi. In the second quarter of this year, Apple's sales in China grew by only 4.4% year-on-year.
To expand sales in India, Apple recently opened two new stores in Bangalore and Pune, and plans to open more stores in Noida, a suburb of Delhi, and Mumbai next year.
Apple reorganized its international business department in 2023, designating India as an independent sales region. This move reflects the growth potential of the Indian market, which is driven by income growth and the expansion of the middle class. Tarun Patkar, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, said: "In India, the iPhone is a 'symbol of status' for many people, and it currently holds about 7% of the smartphone market in India."
At the same time, India is becoming another important manufacturing base for Apple. Currently, one fifth of the iPhones produced globally are made in India. Apple is expanding the production of iPhones in its five factories in India. This is interpreted as part of a strategy to reduce reliance on China as a manufacturing base.
