Korean Media: BYD Sweeps the UK Electric Vehicle Market!

On June 22, South Korean media outlet Herald Economic published an article stating that BYD's influence in the UK is rapidly expanding. In 2025, the UK electric vehicle market was led by Tesla, Audi, Ford, BMW, and Skoda. Tesla maintained its market leadership with annual sales exceeding 45,000 units; Audi rose to the top tier thanks to the Q4 e-tron and Q6 e-tron models; Ford and BMW both achieved sales above 12,000 units.

However, starting in 2026, the market landscape is rapidly changing. Just last year, BYD had not yet entered the top ten best-selling brands; yet within only four months this year, it has captured a 7% share of the UK electric vehicle market, significantly enhancing its market presence.

As of the end of April, BYD’s cumulative pure electric vehicle sales in the UK reached 12,754 units—surpassing BMW i4’s 2025 annual sales volume in just 16 weeks.

BYD has not only succeeded in the pure electric vehicle segment but also in the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) market. Including PHEVs, BYD’s total sales have reached 26,396 units, accounting for approximately 9.5% of the UK new car market total.

Besides selling vehicles, BYD also supplies home energy storage systems and charging equipment, and plans to further introduce ultra-fast “flash charging” infrastructure in the future.

BYD UK stated: “Our goal is to deliver exceptional value to consumers by combining advanced technology, high quality, and reasonable pricing in our electric vehicles. Beyond vehicle sales, we also plan to leverage V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.”
