The Foreign Policy magazine warns that the US may lose the ability to win wars
Experts in the US, including Michael Horowitz, former assistant secretary of defense, wrote in The Foreign Policy magazine that if the US does not adapt to new realities in warfare and increase investment in efficient and low-cost drones, the US may lose the ability to win conflicts.
The article states: "If the Pentagon cannot adapt to new operational realities, it will lose the ability to deter adversaries from aggression, and may even lose the ability to win wars."
The article points out that although the Pentagon spends hundreds of billions of dollars each year maintaining and upgrading traditional weapon systems such as aircraft carriers, F-35 fighters, and tanks, its investment in low-cost drones is still an order of magnitude less.
The authors of the article further stated that investing only in unmanned systems will limit the types of targets that the armed forces can strike.
