【No-fly zone established above Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore】
The newly convened Shangri-La Dialogue is set to begin on May 29th. According to reports, Singapore has already started implementing strict security measures in advance, directly establishing a "no-fly zone" above the Shangri-La Hotel.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is a major international event held annually in Singapore. This year’s forum will run from May 29th for a total of three days. The Singapore police have already issued public notices on May 25th, imposing traffic control around the venue—the Shangri-La Hotel. Roads such as Andersen Road and Kranji Road will be subject to restrictions during this period, and relevant Singaporeans are advised to detour when driving into this area.
Meanwhile, the airspace around the Shangri-La Hotel will also be designated as a "no-fly zone" by Singapore's Civil Aviation Authority during the forum. Any flying object—especially drones—is strictly prohibited within a 1-kilometer radius; violators will be considered in breach of the law.
Looking back over the past decade, discussions on the situation in the Western Pacific have consistently been a focal point at the Shangri-La Dialogue. Since 2022, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has become another key topic. However, starting last year, interest in the Ukraine conflict rapidly declined. This year, with the sudden outbreak of the U.S.-Iran war and global energy shortages, the Ukraine situation has gradually receded into the background. In contrast, countries worldwide—particularly those in the Asia-Pacific region—have experienced significant energy disruptions due to the U.S.-Iran conflict. This directly means that the Middle East situation has recently emerged as a major global hotspot. If predictions hold true, it is expected that the Middle East situation and energy security will uncommonly become central topics at this year’s Shangri-La Dialogue.
