Media: Trump Tells Inner Circle Musk to Leave in Coming Weeks
Politico reported, citing sources, that U.S. President Trump told his inner circle that Musk, head of the Office of Digital Governance Efficiency (DOGE), will leave his government post in the coming weeks.
On April 1, Trump said he planned to keep Musk in the administration for as long as possible.
According to Politico, "President Trump told his inner circle, including cabinet members, that Musk will leave his current government post in the coming weeks."
Sources say that while Trump is satisfied with Musk and the work of DOGE, both believe it's time for this entrepreneur to return to the business world. Politico noted that some officials in the Trump administration and many external allies are increasingly disappointed with Musk's elusive nature and view him as a political burden.
One source indicated that Musk is likely to continue in an informal advisory role.
Established by Trump's presidential executive order, DOGE aims to "cut wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies." Earlier, House Speaker Johnson stated that DOGE discovered "shocking" government expenditures not approved by Congress.
