Foreign media: Chinese experts suggest building an underground defense network in western regions to protect key energy and defense facilities, ensure long-term resource reserves, and enhance national security and crisis response capabilities.

Chief technical expert Zhang Shizhu from China Power Construction Group, a major energy and infrastructure giant in China, proposed that important facilities should be buried deep underground to be more secure and harder to detect.

In an article published in the Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Shizhu stated that strategic locations such as hydropower centers in Southwest China and oil and gas fields in Northwest China are ideal sites for constructing underground facilities to store oil, natural gas, and rare metals.

The article emphasized, "Important national projects should prioritize relocating core facilities underground to avoid potential attacks and reduce their visibility."
