Last year, there were 25,000 new innovations in Germany! According to the latest data from the European Patent Office, Germany ranked second globally in terms of the number of new patent applications, just behind the United States.

In the automotive field, inventions related to intelligent car technologies such as electric vehicle drive systems and infotainment systems stood out particularly (increased by 14.4% and 33.4%, respectively). More than 10% of new patents involved battery and fuel cell technology. Clearly, electric vehicles and renewable energy storage technologies are playing an increasingly important role.

According to statistics from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2024, the total number of international patent applications submitted through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) worldwide was 273,900, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%.

China continued to lead the world with 70,160 applications (accounting for approximately 25.6%), an increase of 0.9%. The United States (54,087 applications), Japan (48,397 applications), South Korea (23,851 applications, +7.1%), and Germany (16,721 applications) ranked second to fifth globally.
