How much will the U.S. strike hinder Iran's nuclear program?
After the U.S. attacked Iran, Trump declared to the world that "Iran's critical nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely destroyed."
However, Iranian officials tried to downplay the severity of the attack.
Hassan Abedini, deputy director of political affairs at Iran's state broadcaster, said in a televised speech that these three nuclear facilities had been evacuated "not long ago," and "since the materials have been moved out, they did not suffer major damage."
Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, said that Iran likely took precautionary measures before the U.S. attack.
He said that Iran's most valuable nuclear assets are its enriched uranium stockpile, "as long as they continue to possess these, they actually still have a nuclear program that can be weaponized."
Parsi added, "I think we will soon hear the Israelis saying that this attack is not the kind of successful strike Trump claims it to be, but they will start claiming the need for more sustained bombing of Iran."
