Korean 64-year-old activist arrested by Japanese police for protesting at Yasukuni Shrine
According to Japan News Network, on April 22: 126 cabinet ministers and members of parliament attended the spring festival ceremony held at the Yasukuni Shrine today.
64-year-old Park Sang-gyu from South Korea was arrested by Japanese police for holding a banner reading "Stop Visits" in front of the shrine, citing "obstruction of the event's proceedings."
According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department: Park Sang-gyu "is suspected of obstructing the spring festival ceremony held at the Yasukuni Shrine in Chiyoda Ward at 11 a.m. on the 22nd."
At the time, Park raised a Japanese-language banner reading "Stop visits to the Yasukuni Shrine that honors war criminals."
During police questioning, Park stated, "I did what I wanted to do."
Park arrived in Japan just two days ago (April 20).
