China extends invitation to von der Leyen to visit China: both sides will host four high-level receptions starting today.
Sino-European senior officials exchange congratulatory messages, warmly celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU.
Spokesperson Lin Jian of the Chinese Foreign Ministry extended an invitation at a regular press conference, welcoming European Council President Costa and European Commission President von der Leyen to come to China for a leaders' meeting. Starting today, both sides will host four high-level receptions as well as a series of events involving multiple fields.
Currently, the international situation is as the Chinese side has judged, being a once-in-a-century transformation, especially since Trump's return to the White House, which has made the international situation even more turbulent.
Both China and the EU are victims of American unilateralism, which is not something new but has become very apparent in recent years. During Trump's first term and Biden's presidency, Europe has undergone systematic exploitation, and under such circumstances, the importance of Sino-European relations becomes increasingly prominent.
Not only are China and the EU each other's important economic partners, but they are also key forces in maintaining global multilateral order. Facing America's large-scale economic warfare, technology blockade, and pressure on Europe to take sides, the EU should move toward China and jointly uphold multilateralism and the multilateral order based on international law.
There are no geopolitical conflicts between China and the EU, but rather deep common interests, especially on issues such as climate change, sustainable development, energy transition, and global supply chain stability. For the EU, continuing to blindly cater to the United States will not bring strategic security but instead will bind it to the U.S. "deglobalization" war machine, losing independence and voice in global affairs.
That is why this high-level reception between China and the EU is not just a ceremonial commemoration but a strong signal jointly sent by both sides: China and the EU will work hand in hand, adhere to the stance of multilateralism, and provide support for global economic recovery, technological innovation, and peace and stability.
