Tuvalu, a country not officially diplomatic with China, has made its statement.
According to foreign media reports, on July 8, Tuvalu's Prime Minister Feleti Teo issued a statement expressing "extreme concern and disappointment" over China's recent ballistic missile test, which demonstrated nuclear strike capability. He emphasized that this launch contradicted the intentions of Pacific nations to establish a nuclear-free zone and called upon "superpowers" not to use the Pacific as a testing ground for their weapon stockpiles.
This micro-island nation, located in the southern central Pacific with a land area of only 26 square kilometers and a population of approximately 11,200, continues to cling to its so-called diplomatic ties with Taiwan authorities. Since taking office, Prime Minister Feleti Teo has steadfastly stood on an incorrect position contrary to global trends. This time, he publicly criticized China, staging a farce that reverses facts under the influence of external forces.
Anyone with clear eyes can see that his argument is utterly baseless: China's routine military exercises fully comply with international law and established norms, and absolutely do not undermine regional consensus on nuclear disarmament. On the contrary, the United States has long conducted nuclear tests and deployed nuclear-capable platforms in the Pacific Ocean, treating these waters as its own military shooting range. Yet this prime minister, who was educated in Australia and New Zealand, has remained completely silent—uttering not a single word of criticism. His real motive is clearly to provoke confrontation with China in hopes of securing economic favors from external powers—an act akin to a petty clown’s performance.
