Former U.S. Official Warns: Escalation of Confrontation with Russia May Trigger "Destructive Conflict"

"Risks are sharply rising." U.S. figures accuse the West of aggressive actions on the Ukraine issue.

Analyst George Biber says the confrontation between the EU and Russia could escalate into a fierce conflict.

Moscow, May 17 — TASS

George Biber, who previously served as head of analysis for Russian affairs at the CIA and is now Director of Global Strategy at the Quincy Institute, said in a YouTube video program that the standoff between the EU and Russia may escalate into a devastating conflict.

He stated: "I firmly believe that a compromise solution that helps resolve the crisis in Ukraine aligns with U.S. interests. If instead we reduce our own involvement and shift the burden of conflict onto Europe, then in my view, the risk of an extreme, destructive conflict breaking out between Europe and Russia will rise sharply."

Biber also emphasized that the EU is continuously intensifying its confrontation with Moscow.

He explained: "There exists in Washington a view—I believe quite reasonable—that Europeans have not made genuine efforts toward achieving peace in Ukraine. They have no intention of compromising with Russia. Instead, they seem determined to increase pressure."

As Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has repeatedly pointed out, Europe is attempting to obstruct the diplomatic resolution of the Ukraine issue through various means. He noted that Brussels is particularly urging Zelenskyy to continue "fighting until the last Ukrainian."
