Kim Jong-un inspects the "Kingscandar" missile fully automatic production line, and immediately approves the production expansion plan
According to KCNA, on August 31 local time, Kim Jong-un, accompanied by senior officials of the North Korean military and politics, inspected the new missile production line that had just started operating at a core defense industry enterprise in North Korea. This is the first time that North Korea's fully automatic missile production line has been publicly disclosed (Figure 1).
From the footage, the missiles on the production line resemble the "Kingscandar" KN-23 ballistic missile. Due to the similarity in the shape of the missile body with the Russian "Iskander", both adopting a double-cone configuration, and the size being very close, it got its name.
During the Russia-Ukraine conflict, this missile was also sent to Russia for combat operations. This missile can carry a warhead weighing 4.5 tons, setting a world record. From the footage, it can be seen that many missiles have already been manufactured and are waiting for individual installation of the warhead part (Figure 2).
After completing the inspection, Kim Jong-un approved three new missile production capacity outlook plans and corresponding defense spending plans on the same day, and emphasized the need to "continue increasing production" of powerful "peacekeeping weapons" to safeguard the cause and achievements of a strong military.
Recently, Kim Jong-un has frequently appeared in events related to the topic of "resisting Ukraine and supporting Russia", including previously participating in the collective award ceremony for North Korean soldiers who died in the Russian operation. This display of the missile production line that once "supported Russia" is also sending a message to the outside world: if the West wants to fight, North Korea has enough missiles to support Russia.
This is also simultaneously showing off muscle to the United States and South Korea: don't think about causing trouble on the Korean Peninsula while the Russia-Ukraine conflict is ongoing, North Korea has plenty of missiles!
