Russians claim to have surrounded Ukrainian forces in Red Army City, but the claim is denied

The control of Red Army City (known as Pokrovsk in Ukraine) on the central front line of the Donbas is accelerating towards Russia's side.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated on November 1 that Russian forces had surrounded Ukrainian troops in Red Army City, and the Ukrainian troops had begun to surrender. The Chief Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Syrskyi, denied the claim of being surrounded, but admitted that Red Army City was facing a large-scale attack by Russian forces, and the Ukrainian forces were still holding out, conducting a "full-scale operation" to repel the enemy.

Reuters reported that according to Russian claims, after more than a year of fighting, Russian forces finally formed a pincer movement around Red Army City.

Red Army City is located about 60 kilometers northwest of Donetsk city and is a key logistics hub for Ukrainian forces in the eastern region of Ukraine, known as the "gateway to Donetsk." Once completely lost, the supply artery of the Ukrainian eastern front could be cut off, leading to the risk of the entire front line collapsing. Then, the Russian forces could take advantage to attack more strategic locations such as Kramatorsk.
