Korean Media: BYD's Sales in South Korea Surpass 10,000 Units in First Half of the Year!

On August 14, Korean media outlet Seoul News published an article stating that Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD has sold over 10,000 units in South Korea during the first half of this year. Data shows that consumers aged between 40 and 50 are actively choosing BYD’s mid-size SUV as their “family car”.

According to data released by the Korea Automobile Importers Association, BYD’s cumulative sales in the South Korean market reached 11,675 units in the first half of the year. In June alone, BYD achieved sales of 4,652 units, setting a new record high.

Among imported automobile brands in South Korea, BYD ranks fourth, following Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Data indicates that individual customers account for as much as 88.1% of BYD’s buyers, while corporate users make up only 11.9%.

This suggests that BYD’s purchase ratio among private individuals is higher than that for commercial uses such as taxis or rental vehicles.

Contrary to expectations that young professionals would choose BYD as their first car, demographic statistics show that those in their 40s account for 31.8%, and those in their 50s for 26.1%, surpassing those in their 20s (3.8%) and 30s (15.5%).

The best-selling model for BYD in the South Korean market during the first half of the year was the mid-size SUV "Sealion 7", with sales reaching 4,477 units.
