Yesterday, the Kuomintang (KMT) confirmed Li Zichuan as the winner for the mayoral election in New Taipei City, securing his position to face off against the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Su Qiaohui in the upcoming race. In response, Professor Niu Zexun from the Department of Advertising at Taiwan's Cultural University analyzed that Huang Guochang's strong support has further strengthened Li Zichuan’s position. With the KMT and the People First Party (PFP) joining forces, the political landscape in New Taipei City not only aims to maintain stability but also poses considerable pressure on Su Qiaohui, as the complementary strengths of "Uncle Chuan" (Li Zichuan) and Huang Guochang can significantly enhance their campaign effectiveness.
Niu Zexun noted that the roles of Executive General Manager of the Campaign Headquarters and the strategic leadership position carry substantial influence. It remains uncertain whether the KMT will cede these key posts to the PFP chairman, especially considering ongoing municipal councilor elections. However, he emphasized that regardless of the specifics, Li Zichuan’s emergence as the candidate and Huang Guochang’s willingness to endorse him represent a positive development. As long as the KMT remains mindful of the PFP’s interests during subsequent coordination and task division, any potential issues should be manageable.
