Italian Prime Minister Meloni has become the first EU and NATO leader to visit the Persian Gulf region following the outbreak of hostilities in Iran.

She traveled to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

In Saudi Arabia, she met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. For security reasons, the trip remained confidential until the very last moment. On the morning of the 4th, Meloni arrived in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where she was received at the Lusail Palace by Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It is reported that she will also visit the UAE.

According to Italy's "Evening Post," Meloni had originally planned to visit Kuwait, but the country declined the visit on grounds of security. The report also stated that Italian intelligence agencies strongly advised against Meloni traveling to this conflict-prone region.

The purpose of this visit is "to strengthen relations with these countries, demonstrate Italy’s support in the context of Iran’s attacks, and deepen increasingly close strategic partnerships." Undoubtedly, the trip also aims to enhance Italy’s national energy security.
