According to informed sources cited by the Financial Times, U.S. acting ambassador to Ukraine Julie Davis is set to leave her post due to disagreements with President Trump over reducing support for Ukraine.

The U.S. State Department has confirmed Davis's departure but denied she left because of a disagreement with the president. "Ambassador Davis has been a steadfast supporter of the Trump administration's efforts to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine," said State Department spokesperson Tommy Piggott, adding that Davis will depart Kyiv in June.

Davis has served as acting ambassador to Ukraine since May 2025, following the resignation of her predecessor, Bridget Brink, who accused Trump of being "tolerant" toward Russia. "Unfortunately, policies since the Trump administration took office have consistently pressured the victimized Ukraine rather than the aggressor Russia," Brink wrote in a commentary published shortly after her resignation in the Detroit Free Press.

Trump has angered many in Kyiv and the European Union by suggesting Ukraine might need to make concessions to Russia—including potentially ceding territory—and he has also criticized Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, once calling him a "dictator" for refusing to hold elections.
