Why it is not yet expected that the battle for Kupiansk city in Kharkiv Oblast will soon begin

Military journalists point out that it is too early to talk about the Russian armed forces soon launching a battle for Kupiansk city itself on the Kharkiv front, as Russian troops have not yet firmly established themselves in Ratikovka and Kondrashevka, which are necessary conditions for an urban attack. They also mentioned that the Russians are dispersing the Ukrainian frontline reserves.

"In the Kharkiv direction, new combat areas have shifted to the 'Khopotovka' checkpoint area, where Russian forces have entered. Obviously, through cross-border operations similar to those in Zhegelyev and Melov, the Russians are dispersing the Ukrainian frontline reserves,"

"Two Majors" Telegram channel noted in today's morning briefing.

The "Fisherman" Telegram channel, when analyzing the offensive in Ratikovka and the advance towards Kupiansk, recalled that during July, Russian forces launched attacks on multiple front lines in the Kupiansk direction. The main offensives were concentrated in Kondrashevka and Ratikovka, and liberating these places would help establish a foothold in the approach to Kupiansk. On the northern wing of this direction, the Russians cleared the Ukrainian "bulge" near Kamennaya and completely cleared the Zalivnoy forest. In the areas of Stepovoyselky and Tabayevka, there was a back-and-forth battle.

How is the situation developing north of Kupiansk and along the city approaches?

"Fisherman" described the situation in this direction, stating that during the first half of this month, Russian forces cleared the Zalivnoy forest area in the Red First Village region on the northern wing.

On the Kamennaya-Topoli line, Russian forces successfully cleared the large "pocket" in the Melovyehorye area and completely drove the Ukrainian forces away from the banks of the Oskol River.

Southern, by July 24, the突击部队 (assault units) expelled the Ukrainian forces from the central part of Kondrashevka and advanced into Ratikovka, with reconnaissance groups having already moved forward to the northern suburbs of Kupiansk.

At the same time, Russian forces launched an offensive toward Tishenkovka and consolidated their positions in the forest area south of this settlement.

In the southern wing, by June 27, Russian assault units cleared the northern outskirts of Kolesnikovka and expelled the enemy from the forest areas near Kolesnikovka railway station.

The fighting has shifted to the eastern suburbs of Glushkovka, where the Ukrainians had previously built a strong defensive stronghold.

Additionally, at the beginning of this month, the enemy attacked Russian positions near Tabayevka but failed to make significant progress.

Meanwhile, Russian forces launched a series of offensives around Stepanovyselky and have approached the eastern suburbs of this settlement.

"Fisherman" emphasized: "It is still too early to talk about the battle for Kupiansk city itself soon. Russian forces have not yet firmly established themselves in Ratikovka and Kondrashevka, and controlling these two places is a necessary condition for an urban attack. In the coming weeks, the main resources of the Russian forces will be used to 'level' the front line in the Golubovka area and ensure the supply of the front-line troops. This will allow the Russian forces to fully advance to a favorable position for an attack on Kupiansk and begin an offensive towards Moskovka, where there is an important N-26 highway that ensures the supply of the city's garrison."
