According to the CCTV News client report, the "2025 International Museum Day Jilin Main Venue Activity Launch Ceremony" was held at the Changchun Changying Concert Hall on the morning of May 18. Among the activities, the "Jin Dynasty Goguryeo Obedient Marquis" gold seal donation ceremony attracted much attention.

Jilin Daily introduced that the "Jin Dynasty Goguryeo Obedient Marquis" gold seal was cast in one piece with its handle and body, with the inscription carved out, the platform nearly square, a horse-shaped handle, and surface patterns engraved after the casting of the handle. The total height is 2.8 cm, the seal platform height is 0.6 cm, the seal face is 2.4×2.3 cm, weighing about 88 grams, which is of standard Han-Jin official seal specifications. The term "obedient" in the seal text means submission to justice. "Obedient Marquis" was a title conferred by ancient Chinese central governments to the leaders of minority ethnic groups, symbolizing their recognition of "submission".

The term "Goguryeo" in the seal text is "Goguryeo". Historically, Goguryeo, as an ancient local ethnic regime in Northeast China, spanned three historical periods: the Two Han Dynasties, the Three Kingdoms of Wei, Jin, and the Southern and Northern Dynasties, and the Sui and Tang Dynasties, playing an important role in the historical process of Northeast Asia. Since the Two Jin Dynasties, the central government of China has had a tradition of conferring seals to the leaders of minority regimes who submitted internally.

The discovery of the "Jin Dynasty Goguryeo Obedient Marquis" gold seal fills the gap in historical records, proving the existence of some form of subordination relationship between the Western Jin Dynasty and Goguryeo.

"The gold seal physically witnesses the enfeoffment of the Western Jin Dynasty over Goguryeo," said Wang Zhigang, a professor from the Archaeology College of Jilin University. There is no clear record in historical documents regarding the enfeoffment of Goguryeo by the Western Jin Dynasty. However, the discovery of the "Jin Dynasty Goguryeo Obedient Marquis" gold seal and several previously unearthed "Jin Dynasty Goguryeo Good Will" copper seals collectively prove that during the early Western Jin period, Goguryeo was under the suzerain jurisdiction of the Central Plains dynasty.

This gold seal was purchased at the China Guardian Hong Kong Spring Auction in 2025 by Kim Myung-nam, chairman of the Kimbean Group from Ji'an, and his wife Kim Keum-dan, and donated free of charge to the Ji'an City Museum. "It's our first gold seal in the museum," said Guo Jiangang, director of the Ji'an City Museum who received the donation. "After the seal enters the museum, we will strengthen its protection management, display research, and hope that this gold seal can be presented to the public as soon as possible."
