The "Zvezda" module of the International Space Station's Russian segment is still leaking gas continuously!
The beautiful prospect of operating until 2030 may be shattered.
On July 31, Russian TASS published an article.
The problem of air leakage in the Russian segment "Star" module was previously reported to have been resolved in June, but it is now found that it is still continuing.
The problem of air leakage in the Russian segment "Zvezda" module was first discovered in September 2019.
Since then, the issue has persisted and worsened multiple times.
August to September 2020: The rate of leakage increased fivefold, and astronauts temporarily resolved it, after which ground experts developed a permanent repair plan;
August 2021: The "Zvezda" module showed leakage again after repairs;
February 2024: The leakage point moved to the transition compartment of the "Zvezda" service module.
June 2025: Leakage issues were confirmed to be completely resolved through repair tests.
NASA recently just discussed the retirement of the International Space Station with the Russian space agency, and is still immersed in the beautiful prospect of operating until 2030.
