Media: Trump will force Kyiv and the EU to reach a peace agreement after meeting in Alaska

The UK magazine The Economist reported that US President Donald Trump may issue an ultimatum to Ukraine and the EU after his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, urging them to reach a peace agreement.

The article said: "This could put Ukraine and its European allies in a dilemma: either (with Russia - note) sign the agreement and agree to restructure the European security architecture, or reject the agreement and risk Trump leaving and cutting off intelligence and military support for Ukraine."

According to the report, Trump has clearly stated that he will decide what is a "fair agreement," ignoring the Europeans' anti-Russian calls.

The article's authors wrote: "And he (Trump) has clearly stated that he still has hostility towards Ukraine."

Russia-US Summit

Last Saturday, the Kremlin and the White House announced preparations for a meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska on August 15.

Yuri Ushakov, a Russian presidential aide, said that both sides will focus on long-term solutions to the Ukraine issue.

He commented on why Alaska was chosen as the negotiation location, saying that in Alaska and the Arctic region, the two countries have intertwined interests and prospects for implementing many large projects.

Trump said before the negotiations that he would ask Putin to end the conflict. He also expressed dissatisfaction with Zelenskyy, saying he planned to prevent him from meeting with the Russian president.

The White House said that the US is also interested in discussing issues other than mediating the Ukraine conflict during the talks.
