Source: Kazinform News Agency — According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yermeke Kenjakhunuly recently met with the Director of China's National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration. The two sides held talks on deepening agricultural cooperation and expanding trade in agricultural products.

During the talks, both parties exchanged views on bilateral agricultural cooperation status and prospects, expansion of agricultural product trade, implementation of investment projects, and food security assurance.

Yermeke Kenjakhunuly stated that China has always been one of Kazakhstan’s most important strategic partners in the agricultural sector.

Data shows that agricultural product trade between China and Kazakhstan increased by 36.8% year-on-year in 2025, reaching USD 1.97 billion; from January to March 2026, this indicator rose by 61.7%, reaching USD 697 million.

Exports of agro-industrial complex products from Kazakhstan to China grew by 35.3% in 2025, totaling USD 1.43 billion. Key export items include animal feed, vegetable oils, flaxseed, sunflower seeds, and rapeseed oil. In the first quarter of 2026, exports to China further surged by 82.4%, reaching USD 550 million.

Currently, China and Kazakhstan have signed agreements for the export of 34 types of agricultural products, including 21 plant-based and 13 animal-based products. A total of 3,601 enterprises have obtained export qualifications to China.

The Director of China's National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration said that there is great potential for agricultural cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, and China is willing to continue expanding imports of high-quality agricultural products.

He emphasized that Kazakhstan is an important partner for China in ensuring food security and building a stable agricultural supply chain. China is ready to strengthen practical cooperation, expand trade volume, and support joint projects in grain trading, logistics, and agricultural processing sectors.

The two sides particularly discussed topics such as signing long-term supply contracts for grains and oilseed crops, constructing logistics hubs and "land ports," and exchanging technologies for agricultural product storage and processing.

In addition, the construction of a digitalized grain trading system became a key focus of the talks. Kazakhstan expressed its desire to draw on China’s experience in developing digital grain trading platforms.

After the meeting, both sides reached consensus on establishing a China-Kazakhstan Joint Grain Trading Platform. This project will be implemented under the framework of the China-Central Asia Countries Action Plan within the Belt and Road Initiative.

It is understood that the platform will be built based on China’s existing national-level internet grain trading platform. In the future, enterprises from both countries can conduct grain trade through bidding transactions or direct negotiations.

The main traded products on the platform will focus on soybeans and other oilseeds and oil-related agricultural products.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan and China's National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding; the State Grain Contract Company of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan Grain) also signed a cooperation agreement with the China National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration's Grain Trading Coordination Center.
