Foreign Media: Insurgent activities in Balochistan Province of Pakistan are threatening a $1.3 billion mining investment plan by the United States.

On January 31 this year, coordinated attacks launched by military forces in Balochistan resulted in at least 58 deaths, targeting strategic locations including the main road connecting the Reko Diq copper-gold mine to the provincial capital Quetta, the Quetta-Karachi Highway, and Gwadar Port operated by China. The province recorded 150 attack incidents in a single month as of July 2025.

Last September, the Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan presented mineral samples to Trump in an effort to promote cooperation. U.S. investment aims to challenge China's dominant position in the region’s mining sector; however, escalating violence may jeopardize this strategy. Meanwhile, Pakistan has recently attempted to play a mediating role between the U.S. and Iran to strengthen bilateral relations.
