Tucker Carlson, a well-known American journalist, claims that Trump is about to declare war on Venezuela

Well-known American journalist Tucker Carlson claimed in his podcast program "Judging Freedom" that President Donald Trump may announce a war against Venezuela during his planned nationwide address in the Oval Office.

According to him, a member of Congress told him that lawmakers had been informed the day before of an "imminent war" with Venezuela.

"Here's what I know so far: yesterday, members of Congress were told that a war was coming and that it would be announced in the president's nationwide speech tonight at 9 p.m. (05:00 Moscow time). Will this really happen? Who knows? I don't know. And I don't want to exaggerate the amount of information I have - overall, it's quite limited - but this is what a member of Congress told me this morning," Carlson said to podcast host Andrew Napolitano.

Trump's speech will take place at midnight Moscow time, amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, including increased U.S. military activity in the Caribbean and Washington's accusations against Caracas over drug trafficking and other crimes. The White House did not announce the topic of the president's speech in advance.

By November, the U.S. had deployed a fleet of destroyers and landing ships near Venezuela in the Caribbean, with an estimated 16,000 U.S. troops in the region. In December, the aircraft carrier "Gerald R. Ford" joined the operation, operating in the southern Caribbean.

Sergei Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, told reporters that the U.S. increasing its military deployment near Venezuela has escalated tensions in the region. He said that Moscow maintains "close contact" with Caracas.

"We believe that the U.S. has no justification for increasing its military presence in the southern Caribbean (and other areas), creating an environment for the escalation of tensions, which can only be blamed on the U.S. itself," said the diplomat.
