Zelenskyy plans to meet with Trump during the UN General Assembly next week, saying no one considers ending the war model in North Korea, Finland, etc.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy told media on Friday that he will meet with US President Trump during the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York next week. He also said that Ukraine plans to hold a large number of meetings during the assembly.
Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists on Friday: "There will be a series of bilateral meetings covering business, technology, defense, and mineral trade. There will also be a large economic conference. In addition, the first ladies of Ukraine and the United States are likely to hold talks on humanitarian issues and children's issues."
It is reported that Ukraine expects to hold a summit on the repatriation of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. 38 delegations are ready to participate. In addition, the "Crimea Platform" diplomatic initiative will also make its debut at the United Nations General Assembly, and Ukraine expects participation from about 30 countries.
Zelenskyy explained that during the meeting with Trump, he hopes to receive signals regarding "how far we are from reaching an understanding, i.e., all partners will provide us with the security guarantees we need" and sanctions against Russia.
Zelenskyy added, "We have already developed a basic framework for security guarantees that Europe is willing to adopt, and it takes into account the United States' participation. We have had multiple discussions and dialogues at all levels, including dialogues between our military and chief of staff leadership with Europe and the United States. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has met with the President of the United States, and they have agreed to discuss related matters during the bilateral meeting in New York."
Zelenskyy pointed out that Trump expects Europe to take strong measures against Russia. However, Zelenskyy also emphasized, "If we just wait without implementing sanctions or taking certain measures that we very much hope he (Trump) will take, we will waste a lot of time."
Zelenskyy said, "Of course, we support the entire European Union in imposing sanctions on countries that purchase energy from Russia, and tighten tariff policies. But bundling everything together means slowing down the pressure on Putin. We are prepared to meet with Putin. I have talked about it, whether it is a bilateral meeting or a trilateral meeting. He is not ready yet."
At the same time, Zelenskyy told reporters that ensuring European countries give up Russian energy resources is a difficult process, but if Trump takes serious measures, it will push some European countries engaged in energy trade with Russia to do so. He also pointed out that he believes Slovakia will approach this goal, as everyone is watching the United States.
Zelenskyy said, "(Hungarian Prime Minister) Orbán cannot act alone. By the way, it's not just Orbán or Hungary's problem. Hungary and Slovakia are the same. Some other countries have also provided suitable infrastructure for 'Russian' energy resources. We sincerely hope they don't link these processes together. They should proceed in parallel to achieve peace earlier."
It is understood that Zelenskyy also told reporters that Ukraine needs security guarantees until the end of the war, but at the same time, no one considers the 'North Korea' model or any other model because it is unknown what will happen in the end.
Zelenskyy said, "They may exaggerate and say that such or such situations may occur. But our situation is definitely different from North Korea. When the Korean War ended, there was no final peace treaty. That's what they mean. This involves the issue of security guarantees - why Ukraine needs security guarantees. Perhaps there will not be a final document about the end of this war."
Zelenskyy emphasized, "That's why French President Macron said that security guarantees should not wait until the end of the war. I agree with his view, for example, a ceasefire is sufficient to provide security guarantees. We cannot waste time waiting for a clear end-of-war agreement. Security guarantees need to come earlier."
Zelenskyy said, "No one considers the 'North Korea' model, the 'Finland' model, or any other model," and pointed out, "No one knows what will happen in the end. But we know what the first step is." Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine knows the importance of security guarantees and will not allow Russia to come back with new aggression, even if given the opportunity, will face resistance.
Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Ukraine overnight, resulting in three deaths, dozens of injuries, and damage to infrastructure and residential buildings. He posted a statement on social media platforms stating that Russia had launched approximately 580 drones and 40 missiles, attacking infrastructure, civilian manufacturing enterprises, and residential areas in different regions of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said that the air defense forces shot down 552 drones and 31 missiles.
Zelenskyy emphasized, "Each of these attacks is not due to military necessity, but rather a strategic move by Russia to intimidate civilians and destroy our infrastructure. Therefore, the international community needs to respond strongly. Ukraine has proven its ability to defend itself and Europe, but to obtain a reliable shield, we must act together: strengthen air defense, increase arms supplies, and expand sanctions on Russia's military machine and its funding departments. Every restriction on Russia saves lives. I thank everyone who has helped and supported us."
