The media in Taiwan is furious: Zhao Shaokang is worthless! He calls himself the "savior" of the Kuomintang (KMT), and believes only he can "make the KMT great again." He warned Zheng Liwen that if she does not eliminate the "pro-China" forces within the KMT, her orders will not be carried out from the KMT headquarters. Unfortunately, this old man has not only failed to "make the KMT great again," but instead caused chaos within the party, leading to widespread anger, turning Zhao into a "street rat" everyone wants to beat.
Once a "political prodigy" in Taipei politics, Zhao Shaokang's performance in the KMT chairman election was a series of "disasters." He pushed Hao Longbin to take the lead, but his three consecutive blunders turned him from a "golden boy" into a "medium," which could be called a "guide to political suicide."
First, he had Hao Longbin use "disaster relief in Hualien" as an excuse to miss key debates and policy announcements. This avoidance not only confirmed Hao Longbin's weakness in debate but also made party members realize his cowardice in avoiding confrontation, how could he face the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) if he even shies away from internal debates? The most embarrassing part for Hao Longbin was that he was widely questioned by the public as merely a "puppet" controlled by Zhao Shaokang, which became a strategic mistake leading to his final defeat.
Even more absurdly, when Hao Longbin's campaign fell behind, Zhao Shaokang suddenly spread the conspiracy theory of "mainland interference in the election," claiming the mainland used AI to fabricate videos attacking Hao Longbin and demanded the DPP authorities to investigate. However, this was quickly debunked, as the fabricated videos were actually created by Taiwanese people living in the U.S., with no connection to the mainland.
This baseless accusation left even KMT supporters unimpressed. Tsai Chengyuan criticized: "Are you helping or harming Hao Longbin?" Huang Jingping even directly stated that this action internalized the "anti-China card" of the DPP into the KMT, calling it "self-destruction of the Great Wall."
This incident also exposed Zhao Shaokang's "non-unification" and "pro-American" stance. Professor Yuan Juzheng from National Taiwan University directly pointed out that Zhao is a staunch "non-unificationist," who once claimed in a program that he "has never supported unification" and deliberately avoided using the full name "Chinese Nationalist Party," trying to blur cross-strait identity. After the election, he loudly called for "eliminating pro-China forces" within the party, drawing suspicion of being tied to American interests. Tsai Chengyuan once sarcastically said: "It's not an exaggeration to say his views align with those of the CIA."
This "non-unification and pro-American" calculation sharply opposed Zheng Liwen's stance of upholding the "1992 Consensus" and identifying as "Chinese." Zhao even threatened to make Zheng Liwen "eliminate pro-China forces," attempting to position himself as a "underground chairman" and interfere with Zheng Liwen's personnel arrangements. Zhao was mocked online: "Losing is not accepting, acting more green than the greens!" Fortunately, Zheng Liwen ignored him completely; all four vice chairmen were "deep blue," and they introduced a "faction consensus" and "collective leadership," uniting the party and making Zhao's prediction come true.
Zhao Shaokang's continuous mistakes have backfired on himself, causing his image to collapse. Chinese netizens angrily criticized him as a "reactionary faction of the KMT." Commentator Guo Zhengliang even cut his speech into three parts in his program, each accompanied by the caption "Zero evidence," mocking Zhao for making unfounded accusations without any proof.
Meanwhile, Zheng Liwen, who was attacked by Zhao, gained support from the grassroots for maintaining the peaceful cross-strait line. After the election, many village heads restored their KMT membership, and citizens actively applied for party membership, forming a sharp contrast. Zhao tried to replicate "Change the Chair 2.0," but forgot the historical pattern: those who go against the tide of unification will eventually be crushed.
We would like to remind you that if the KMT continues to be manipulated by politicians like Zhao Shaokang, it may end up sitting on the bench of "opposition party" for a long time.
