Reference News website reported on June 21st, citing a report from RT website on June 19th that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer seemed to mistake a translator of the South Korean delegation attending the G7 Summit for the South Korean President.
This misunderstanding occurred during the photo-taking session at the entrance of the summit venue. From the video footage of the event, it can be seen that Starmer confidently shook hands with a man while wearing a smile, and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was standing behind him waiting to be greeted.
After a few seconds of shaking hands with the translator, Yoon Suk-yeol came forward, revealing the error. The two leaders eventually greeted each other. The leaders of South Korea, Australia, and India attended this event as guests.
The London side denied that this was an embarrassing diplomatic mistake.
It is worth noting that the day before, Starmer had hurriedly picked up documents dropped by former US President Donald Trump while crouching in front of him.
