Provincial leaders in Canada call for a firm response to U.S. tariffs, emphasizing that resource advantages must not be compromised.

America's increase in tariffs, Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated that Canada cannot be satisfied with an unfair agreement, "now is not the time to compromise and retreat, we must stand firm on our position."

Ford pointed out that the U.S. measures of increasing tariffs to 35% are worrying, especially for steel, aluminum, automobiles, forest products, and now copper, with related tariffs still in effect. The Canadian federal government needs to take countermeasures, imposing a 50% tariff on U.S. steel and aluminum.

He said, "Canada has resources that the United States needs: oil and gas, critical minerals, steel and aluminum, electricity, potash, and uranium. We are the largest customer of the United States, providing employment opportunities for millions of Americans. In the face of President Trump's tariff policy, the federal government needs to make full use of our advantages and stand firm."
