Chinese Companies Avoid High US Port Fees by Stopping at Neighboring Countries

The United States decided to significantly increase port fees for Chinese-made ships in an effort to curb Chinese shipyards' dominance in the global market.

Foreign media reported that Chinese shipping companies (ocean freight companies) may cooperate with companies from other countries to jointly resist these U.S. policies.

Several Chinese shipping companies, including COSCO Shipping, plan to dock more at ports in other countries, avoiding U.S. ports as much as possible.

Ports in neighboring countries of the United States, such as Mexico, will receive additional transshipment volumes.

If Chinese companies adopt this approach, the largest U.S. ports could lose at least 20% of their cargo throughput and over one-third of annual profits.

Meanwhile, U.S. companies will have to find ways to transport goods to the U.S., thus paying extra fees and waiting longer.

Doesn't it sound like a good strategy?
