Foreign media: On January 23, the Chinese Coast Guard successfully rescued 17 Filipino crew members near the Huangyan Island in the South China Sea.
The cargo ship, flying the Singaporean flag, capsized about 55 nautical miles northwest of Huangyan Island. After the accident, the Sanya Maritime Search and Rescue Center received a distress signal and immediately dispatched two coast guard ships for rescue.
There were 21 Filipino crew members on board. As of noon, 17 were rescued, among them 14 were in stable condition, 2 died, 1 was in critical condition, and 4 remained missing, with the search and rescue operations still ongoing.
