The Hindustan Times quoted Goyal as saying: "Of course, we are negotiating with the United States, but we will not rush to reach an agreement, nor will we accept an agreement with strict deadlines or of a coercive nature."
He said that India is looking toward the long-term future and will not make decisions under temporary pressures.
Goyal also said: "We have accepted the fact of being subjected to tariffs. We are seeking solutions to this issue, studying new markets, and expecting stronger stimulus for India's economic needs. Our economic structure is very stable."
