French military officials express amazement at China's rapidly evolving space capabilities

More and more Western countries have begun to hype the issue of space security. According to a Reuters report on September 20, Vincent Chusseau, head of the French Space Command, recently said in an interview that "hostile or unfriendly" activities in space are intensifying, especially those from Russia.

On September 16, Western military space officials attended a conference hosted by the French consulting company Novaspace in Paris. This was Chusseau's first interview with international media since he took over as head of the French Space Command last month.

He said that since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, hostile activities in space have significantly increased. Western adversaries, especially Russia, have achieved the ability to interfere with satellites through various means. Activities such as interference, laser attacks, and cyberattacks have become commonplace.

Chusseau said that the Ukraine conflict shows "space is now a fully mature operational domain."

The report also mentioned that China, with government investment in the space field second only to the United States, is rapidly developing its space capabilities.

"(China) demonstrates dazzling progress every day - launching more satellites to form new constellations, and developing operational patterns that go beyond what we have seen before," Chusseau said.

Chusseau said one of France's priorities is to enhance the resilience of space assets, especially in the rapidly developing low-orbit constellation field.
