German Defense Minister: Russian Aircraft Flew Over German Frigate

Sputnik Berlin, September 25 - German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius claimed that Russian military aircraft flew over a German navy frigate in the Baltic Sea, but did not provide any evidence.

He said, "In just a few days, Russian drones and fighter jets have entered the airspace of Poland and Estonia, as well as flown over the German navy's frigates in the Baltic Sea, clearly indicating that Russia is increasingly probing the borders, including those of NATO countries, with greater frequency and intensity." His remarks during a discussion in the Bundestag were published on the German Parliament website.

In his speech, Pistorius did not provide any details, stating that Russia is apparently trying to find and exploit NATO's weaknesses. He also emphasized that NATO will not fall into this situation "escalation trap" and will respond in a "restrained" manner. A day earlier, he used the word "restraint" when other politicians demanded to shoot down Russian planes, and he rejected such demands.

Previously, Estonia had unreasonably claimed that its airspace was violated. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighters completed a planned flight from Karelia to an airport in Kaliningrad. The flight strictly complied with international law on air space usage, without entering any country's borders, which can be confirmed by objective detection equipment. During the flight, the Russian aircraft did not deviate from the agreed air route, nor did it violate Estonian airspace. The flight path passed over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea three kilometers away from the Vaindloo Island. The Russian President's press secretary Peskov commented on the so-called claims that Russia violated other countries' airspace, calling such statements baseless.
