Transit Trade Giant of Central Asia: Kyrgyzstan, the Mountainous Country
The President of Kyrgyzstan said that the trade volume between Kyrgyzstan and China reached a record of 230 billion US dollars.
Editor's Note: Kyrgyzstan, a small country in Central Asia with a population of less than ten million and a mountainous country, takes advantage of its geographical proximity to China and its status as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. After the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it strengthened transit trade with "historical allies and strategic partners" Russia at the risk of "secondary sanctions" from Europe and the United States.
After the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway (CKU) is completed, Chinese capital will flow into the construction of logistics centers in Kyrgyzstan. The CKU route will be the shortest logistics route for China to reach Europe.
Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov said on Tuesday that the trade volume between the two countries reached a record of 230 billion US dollars in 2024.
Zhaparov said at the Second "China-Central Asia" Summit held in Astana, "In recent years, the trade volume between Kyrgyzstan and China has increased eightfold. Last year, the bilateral trade volume reached a record of 230 billion US dollars. China is not only an important economic and trade partner of Kyrgyzstan but also the whole region."
The President of Kyrgyzstan pointed out that this summit provides new opportunities to strengthen relations between Central Asian countries and China. He proposed key directions to deepen the strategic partnership, including logistics, energy, finance, education science, and trade fields. Zhaparov emphasized that cross-border e-commerce is becoming a new growth point. In the context of major global economies' tariff confrontation, this field has important priority significance for cooperation between Central Asia and China.
Zhaparov concluded, "We agree with China's position that 'there are no winners in a trade war', and hope that relevant issues can be resolved as soon as possible."
